Committee approves development plan for University District- Highland Strip area

The Shelby County Board of Commissioners approved a tax-financing plan on Oct. 27 that will allow public improvements to the Highland Strip area near the University of Memphis campus.
Mike Keeney, president of the University Neighborhoods Development Corporation, attended the commission meeting alongside University of Memphis’ President David Rudd.
Tennessee’s 56 cases of Zika virus (so far) doesn’t compare to Florida’s growing numbers

While the Zika virus has caused grave concern in Florida, its impact in Tennessee so far has been minimal with the Tennessee Department of Health reporting just 56 cases this year.
But as was seen in Florida, the expectation is the number of cases will grow throughout the state this coming summer, and public health officials in the state are looking for answers.
Police: U of M student reports armed robbery near campus

University of Memphis police are investigating a report of an armed robbery that took place on the on the football fields off of Southern Avenue on Aug. 21, an event that police say is an extremely rare event on campus.
Willis Fosterhe and four of his friends, were throwing a football on the intramural soccer field around 5 p.m. when they saw a man jump the fence and approach their belongings on the bleachers.
Levitt Shell kicks off another fall concert season

The Levitt Shell continued it’s fall season on Sept. 17 with a concert from the New Breed Brass Band in front of a large crowd, which was just another example of how successful the concerts have been.
The free concerts started on Sept. 3 and continue through the end of October at the shell located in Midtown’s Overton Park.
